Scene Cards

I am working on a set of scene cards for the novel that I want to write the first draft of between now and the end of the year. I have written out the rough outline for the main story, and I am working on writing down the important details of each scene on 3×5 index cards.

Last night I was working on one of the cards at about the time my little dog was ready to have dinner, and so the little dog was sitting beside my chair trying to get my attention. It took me a few moments to realize what was bothering me about the card I was writing.

In the story a thief steals someone’s wagon and the person later catches up with the thief, who is then supposed to explain where the wagon is. This is what I got:

Wookie is the name of the little dog, which had been my mom’s companion dog that alerted to her blood sugar levels. My dad had given her the little shih tzu as an anniversary present one year, and I inherited the little dog after they passed away. It seems like the little dog had more of my attention than my story did. And yes, as soon as I figured out what was wrong with that line I went and got him his supper.
