The Periodic Table

I came across an intriguing headline in my daily Science headlines email this morning.

Yes, it seems that, among other milestones, 2019 marks the 150th anniversary of what I am going to guess is the most popular poster in any science geek’s lab. The periodic table.

Science has a page that gives a visual history of the evolution of the periodic table along with information on each change along it’s journey to the table that was finally set into its present configuration in 2016.

The visual history is an interactive table that charts the changes to the periodic table and each represented element, identified by the abbreviations, can be scrolled over to show exactly what element the abbreviation is referring to. A handy thing for folks that do not automatically know things like Pb is lead, or Ag and Au are silver and gold.

I’ll leave you to explore the page, while I go poke around on some other interesting headlines… such as the one that says a change in diet to soft food gave us an overbite – and the ability to pronounce ‘f’s and ‘v’s.
