Freelancer’s Office Network

The Freelancer’s Office understands that your personal information is priceless, and that to entrust it to anyone is a step that is not taken lightly.  In an effort to convey how seriously that trust is taken, the websites within the Freelancer’s Office Network have adopted and shall abide by the following privacy policy.  This policy shall be in effect beginning March 8, 2008.

1.0 Information Collected
The websites within the Freelancer’s Office Network of websites provide a wide array of information that does not require any personally identifiable information from our visitors, however, the servers for those websites might still collect non-personally identifying log information.
Other information, including personally identifying information, that might be collected by sites within the Freelancer’s Office network include, but may not be limited to:
1.1 Personal Information

Information that can be used to personally identify specific site visitors, such as name or e-mail address. This information is most often supplied by the site visitor in the course of joining services offered by the individual websites within the network.

1.2 Non-personal Information
Non-personal information is information that is most often automatically collected by our site servers to record information about site visitors.  This information might include general demographical information used to improve the website and services it offers.  Examples of non-personal information are: Internet protocol address, browser type and language, date and time of visit, length of time on individual pages within the website, and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser.
 
Collected Information Defined:
Information you provide Information that you provide when you sign up for an account with one or more services offered by the website.   This might include your name and e-mail address for service use or distribution of newsletters, it might also include information that you store on the service that identifies you to other members – such as information entered into the user profile for forums or other services.
Cookies These are small files that contain a string of characters which might be stored within a special “cookies” folder in your browser and are used to uniquely identify your browser to assist in enhancing your use of the site or service.  Your browser may have been set to automatically accept cookies, so if you do not desire to have cookies sent automatically you should reference your browser’s help files for how to set your browser to either refuse cookies or alert you to a cookie being sent so you can accept or decline it.
IP Address and other auto collected information Our servers collect some information on their own, automatically, this includes information such as your Internet Protocol address, your browser type, country of origin, date and time of your visit, pages you visited and how long you remain on those pages.  This is non-personally identifying information that is used to build a broad overview of the most common users of the website.
Links to other websites and Third Party Advertising The websites within the Freelancer’s Office network provide links to other websites that are not covered by this privacy policy, it is up to the individual user to consult the privacy policies of any sites that they may visit as a result of a link.  The appearance of a link on the websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites does not constitute endorsement by the webmaster of the site within the Freelancer’s Office network.  Advertising that appears on the sites within the Freelancer’s Office network may deliver advertising that is supplied by the website or by a third party advertising server.  These third party sites may utilize the placement of cookies on the users browser which they then read to assist them in serving targeted advertising to the website.  Such services may also utilize Web Beacons, also known as tracking pixels, which they use to collect information in the course of serving advertising.  Such information is generally used to determine if the advertisement has been clicked on by a site visitor.
User communications Communications that you send to the webmaster, such as e-mail or other forms of communication, may be retained by the webmaster for the purpose of responding to questions or improving the website(s) and services.
Affiliated sites Some of the services on websites within the Freelancer’s Office network may be offered in connection with other websites.  Information you provide to the website within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites may be shared between that site and its affiliate sites for the purpose of fulfilling orders or providing services.  Such information is processed by the websites within the Freelancer’s Office network in accordance with this policy and at the request of the site visitor, who is encouraged to read the privacy policy of the affiliate site to determine how the information shall be used by that site.  Freelancer’s Office takes no responsibility for the use of such information by any affiliate sites.
Other sites / Information from other sources This privacy policy only pertains to the sites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites and those services that are owned by the owner of the Freelancer’s Office network of websites. Freelancer’s Office does not exercise control over any site not directly owned by the owner of Freelancer’s Office.  Sites linked to from sites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites may place their own cookies or other files on your computer, collect data, or solicit personal information from you.  In no instance shall the owner of the Freelancer’s Office network of websites be held liable for any activity by sites users visit based on  following advertising or third party generated search results that are accessed via a site within the Freelancer’s Office network.
Information you can access You can access information that you have provided through the Freelancer’s Office services by proper use of your log-in information for those services.  In an effort to protect our visitors privacy and their accounts with services within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites, no information shall be provided concerning a user’s information as the result of a request by any party – even when that person provides reasonable proof they are the person the information pertains to.  The only exception to this is covered in section 10.2, Law Enforcement Agencies, within this privacy policy.
Google’s DoubleClick DART Cookie This site uses Google AdSense. Google, as a third party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on the site. Google utilizes DoubleClick DART in the collection of information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to site visitors. Users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy policy.

2.0 How collected information is used
Information collected by the websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites is used only in compliance with this privacy policy and the individual privacy policies that apply to services within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites.  Those uses might include providing services to users, customizing content or advertising to users, research to allow the improvement of websites and services, developing new services or site content, and to assist in maintaining the websites.
2.1. Information sharing The Freelancer’s Office network of websites does not make information collected by the Freelancer’s Office network of websites about visitors to websites within the network available to any persons or businesses not covered within this privacy policy.  Your personally identifiable information will only be shared under the following conditions unless stated otherwise within this privacy policy – as per section 10.2, Law Enforcement Agencies:
  • You have given your consent for such sharing, such as an opt-in request to receive offers from affiliate sites
  • There is good faith belief by the webmaster that disclosure of information, to proper law enforcement officials as defined in 10.2, Law Enforcement Agencies, is reasonably necessary.

Should any website within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites be sold or transferred to new ownership outside of the Freelancer’s Office network of websites, then notice shall be provided on that website within a reasonable time frame before the completion of such sale to allow visitors who have shared personally identifiable information reasonably adequate time in which to remove that personal information.

3.0. Links to other websites
The websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites provide links to outside websites.  Those websites are not bound by the terms of this privacy policy and no link to any site from a website within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites shall imply or in any manner create endorsement of that site, its methods of operation or any use it may place on information that the linked to site may collect from persons entering it via a link from a website within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites.  Some links found on websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites may be paid for links, including links within content on the website.  See 4.0. 4.0. Third Party Advertising and Affiliate Links
The websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites utilize both their own form of advertising and advertising delivered by third party advertising servers.  Third party advertising may utilize cookies placed on the visitors browser which is then read by the advertiser for the purpose of collecting information to aid in the course of serving advertisements on the website, including advertising that is targeted to the user based on information collected by the advertiser through the use of cookies.  Third party advertisers also might employ techniques such as Web Beacons to determine information relating to advertising served on websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites.
4.1. Disclosure Third party advertising may, or may not, appear within content presented on the websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites. 5.0. No SPAM, Spyware or Spoofing

To the best of the capability of Freelancer’s Office, no website within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites will ever refer visitors to any sites that promote, endorse or employ SPAM, Spyware, Spoofing or other illegal or undesirable methods.
6.0. Our Commitment to data security
Data collected by the websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites is protected to the best of the webmaster’s ability, however, the webmaster wants it made clear that many of the services used by the websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites utilize programs and services that are Open Source or Freeware. Because of this, Freelancer’s Office can not promise, nor should you expect, that the data will be 100% secure from any malicious efforts to obtain information stored on the websites.  Users share information at their own risk, and the Freelancer’s Office can not be held liable for any problems that may arise from the voluntary sharing of information over the websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites.  In the event that Freelancer’s Office discovers a security breech a notice will be posted to the website pertaining to the compromised information.  In addition the webmaster will make a reasonable effort to alert persons who may have been effected, however, it is up to the users to monitor the information they share on the sites.
When using services such as Amazon storefronts, PayPal donations / payments or other situations where credit cards might be used in connection with services or third party sites, please verify that you have a secured network by confirming that the URL for the website begins https://…. the “s” signifies a secured network connection.

7.0. Our commitment to children’s privacy
While the sites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites are not intended for use by children under the age of 13, there are certain segments on some of the sites that might interest minors.  It is with this awareness that the webmaster focuses on special efforts to help assure the reasonable safety and family friendliness of all websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites.  Parents are encouraged to monitor their children’s activity while on the Internet.  While it is possible that minors might access forums or leave comments on the blogs of the sites in the Freelancer’s Office network of websites, no personably identifying information is ever knowingly collected on minors that access or use the sites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites.

Enforcement of this policy The websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites which link to this privacy policy have all committed to abide by this policy.  Should you have reason to believe that a site within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites is in some manner not abiding by this privacy policy then you are encouraged to contact the webmaster of the website in question to attempt to reach a resolution to the issue.  Should that fail, then you are encouraged to contact the webmaster of Freelancer’s Office (www.freelancersoffice.com)to determine if the website in question is indeed a part of the Freelancer’s Office network of websites, or if it improperly links to this privacy policy.  Should the site indeed be within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites, and the webmaster of Freelancer’s Office is unable to provide reasonable correction in the form of explanation for the discrepancy or a modification of this privacy policy to cover the disputed issue, then you can also contact your state or local chapters of the Better Business Bureau, state or local consumer protection office, or The Federal Trade Commission by phone at 202.FTC-HELP (202.382.4357) or electronically at http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/complaint.htm
9.2. Law Enforcement Agencies The Freelancer’s Office network of websites is strongly committed to protecting individual identity and keeping children safe.  This serves as notice to every visitor to sites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites, whether they have read this privacy policy or not, that the Freelancer’s Office will work with any legal law enforcement agencies when there is reasonable cause to believe that information held by the Freelancer’s Office, or the websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites, might be required in the course of preventing or solving a crime.  (This also serves as notice to those law enforcement agencies that I am a very paranoid person and will require reasonable proof before I believe someone requesting access to information is legally entitled to view that information.)

In the event that a visitor to one of the websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites should discover that there is anything not covered within this policy, then that information will be reviewed by Freelancer’s Office and if appropriate such information will be added to or modified within this privacy policy.  See 11.0 Changes to this policy for more information on policy changes.
11.0. Changes to this policy
There are instances where information contained within this privacy policy might need to be changed, or updated, to keep the policy, and the websites within the Freelancer’s Office network of websites, in compliance with the ever changing world of the Internet.  When such changes are necessary those changes will be posted to the blog located at http://www.phantascene.com.  While the webmaster will make reasonable effort to alert visitors to changes in the privacy policy, it is the responsibility of the individual site visitors to review this policy from time to time to familiarize themselves with any changes that might have occurred in the policy.
